SUSTAINABLE PLANNING EVERY STEP OF THE WAY

At EcoRegions, we know that social harmony is intrinsic to the economic stability of a region and for ensuring investment security. The foundations of a sustainable eco-region are businesses that are viable, environmentally sound and socially responsible. The planning of an eco-region starts with the local community and the local government’s engagement and active involvement; they are the local experts with a specialised knowledge of the area and who can gain immensely from sustainable development. Problems, dreams and solutions are discussed at “Community Planning” meetings and integrated into the master plan.

When establishing an eco-region, special attention is paid to the following key areas:

Conceptual Master Planning: Sets out the long-term vision for the sustainable planned development of the regions involved. This document lays down the land-use strategy, the character of each area, the strategies for transport, reforestation, energy, water, sanitation, waste and the economic and social development. Once approved by the local government, this becomes the guiding document for the detailed planning.

Detailed Master Planning: Includes the same elements as the conceptual plan but it is more detailed. Streets, waterways etc. will be given precise measurements.

Sustainability Regulations: For each region, special sustainability regulations are created to ensure environmental values are secured over time. Partners developments are regularly monitored.

Comprehensive Sustainable Business Planning: To ensure the establishment of green businesses such as sustainable agriculture, fisheries and services as a vital part of the eco-region plan, administrative, educational and operational support is offered.

Management of Resort and Villas: Operation of resort and villas in a sustainable manner, owned by Eco Regions or partners, will become one of the future core businesses.

Management of the Green Fee: All commercial partners must apply the min. 0.25% surcharge on all goods and services sold in the region. The Green Fee will be paid to Eco Regions NGO and allocated for education, environmental, health and other sustainability projects intended for the local community.
